Innovative, cost-effective Glulam timber engineering solutions

Unusual Rigging – Innovative, cost-effective Glulam timber engineering solutions

This building serves as a pioneering test-bed for principles of the circular economy and low-carbon design, fundamentally shifting away from the traditional linear model of production and consumption characterised by the sequence of take, make, use, and dispose. Instead, it embodies a vision where sustainability is paramount, utilising materials that not only minimise environmental impact but also allow for future disassembly and reuse, thereby extending the buildings lifecycle.

Every design choice has been made with a focus on the ‘true cost,’ which encompasses not just the market price of materials but also the often-overlooked expenses associated with rectifying social environmental harm throughout the supply chain. Constructed with a glulam and timber frame, the building incorporates natural biogenic materials throughout its structure, enhancing its ecological footprint. The design also integrates on-site rainwater management through a biodiverse landscape and pond, further mitigating environmental effects.

Architecturally, the building features two functional rectangular wings spanning two stories, connected by a striking double-height atrium that showcase a prominent staircase. This central atrium not only frames a beautifully landscaped courtyard and entrance but also creates an inviting and visually captivating environment for employees and visitors alike.

Unusual Rigging offers innovative and cost-effective solutions in Glulam timber engineering, providing unique approaches to structural design and construction.
